The Philippines is a famous go-to travel getaway. Whether it’s accommodations for a relaxing stay, like resorts and luxury villas or huge shopping malls in the metro. The country has it all. Moreover, it is also well-known for its theme parks and amusement parks, which are exciting attractions for families traveling with children. Amusement parks are not uncommon in the Philippines. It is a recreational gathering spot whose appeal comes from the thrills it provides. One could argue that its charm is based on escapism. The quick adrenaline rush it gives forgetting the worries in life in short period of time. Thus where people love to destress. The Star City in Pasay is a well-known tourist theme-park destination. Thousands of people visit this park every year, especially during the Christmas and summer seasons. It is indeed a unique location where Filipinos can spend quality time bonding with their loved ones.

The Star City

The Star City is a 35,000-square-meter amusement park in Pasay, Philippines. It is in the vicinity of the Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex. The park was founded in 1991 as a spin-off of the annual Toys and Gift Fair. In the 1990s, the fair was transformed into an amusement park known as Star City. It has more than 30 exciting rides and attractions. All are ranging from safe kiddie rides to extreme ones that adults love to try. Anyone can choose from their indoor and outdoor attractions but people make sure to seize what they can in a day. For years, Filipino families and even foreigners visit the place to experience the thrills it gives. It has been the go-to theme park since it’s just inside Metro Manila. It might just be easily crowded so you have to fall in a long line but the experience in every ride is worthwhile.

The Star City fire incident

Many Filipinos were taken aback by the news. As Star City has been a popular weekend and holiday getaway in the metro since its inception in 1991. As of 2015, it drew approximately 1.5 million visitors per year. However, on October 2, 2019, Star City was hit by a major fire that destroyed approximately 90% of the main Star City building. At least 25 of them were damaged in the fire. Including Gabi ng Lagim, Dungeon of Terror, Bump Car Smash, and Snow World. The fire largely spared the outdoor area, which includes the Star Flyer and Star Frisbee. Furthermore, the initial damage estimates ranged between 15 million and 1 billion Philippine pesos. Fortunately, there’s no casualties reported. The closure extended as the pandemic came in 2020.

The Star City 2022 re-opening

According Star City‘s Facebook post, they will reopen on February 24, 2022. While the amusement park has only been open for 3 weeks, management promised that more exciting rides will be available soon. The indoor and outdoor venues are currently limited to 50% and 70% capacity respectively, in compliance with public health standards. This may change as a result of the new Alert Level updates. The Star City opens from 10 AM – 7 PM on Thursdays through Sundays. As of this writing, all fully vaccinated visitors are welcome. Unvaccinated minors may enter long as they have fully vaccinated guardians to accompany them. To avoid long lines at the gate, the Star City recommends purchasing tickets online. Guests may still purchase tickets at the door. The tickets vary from Php 400.00 – Php 560.00. People are excited to go now after more than two years of the amusement park’s closure.

Via LRT

  • Ride the LRT 1 first, and get off at Vito Cruz Station. Then from there, ride an orange jeepney and tell the driver to drop you off at Star City.
  • Ride the LRT 2 first, and get off at Recto Station. Then from there, ride the LRT 1 and get off at Vito Cruz Station. At Vito Cruz, ride an orange jeepney and tell the driver to drop you off at Star City.

Via MRT

  • Ride the MRT first, and get off at Taft Avenue Station. Then from there, ride the LRT 1 and get off at Vito Cruz Station. Ride the LRT 1 first, and get off at Vito Cruz Station. Then from there, ride an orange jeepney and tell the driver to drop you off at Star City.

Via Public Transportation

  • Ride a UV Express first going to Vito Cruz and get off exactly at Vito Cruz LRT Station. Then from there, ride an orange jeepney and tell the driver to drop you off at Star City.
