The Kadayawan Festival is an annual festival held in Davao City, Philippines. The festival is a celebration of life, a thanksgiving for nature’s gifts, the riches of culture, the bounty of the harvest, and the serenity of living. Additionally, festival is happening for a week in the third week of August, highlighting the 11 tribes of Davao City. The Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan, or street dancing, is one of the highlights of the Kadayawan Festival. This is a showcase of the region’s diverse indigenous cultures. Moreover, festivities feature various Mindanao communities dancing in vibrant costumes that highlight their indigenous heritage. “Kadayawan” is from the Mandaya word “madayaw,” which means a greeting used to explain something good, beautiful, or valuable. Indeed, the Kadayawan Festival continues to bring together locals and visitors alike. Gathering for seven days of music, dance, and feast in Davao’s streets, with multiple events taking place throughout the week.

DAVAO CITY

Davao City is a first-class highly urbanized city in the Philippines’ Davao Region. The name of the region came from its Bagobo origins. Bagobos are natives to the Philippines. The word davao was from by combining the names of three Bagobo subgroups for the Davao River, a major waterway that empties into the Davao Gulf near the city. Furthermore, the city is Mindanao’s main trade, commerce, and industry hub, as well as the regional center of Davao Region. Mount Apo, the highest point in the Philippines, is located in Davao. Agriculture, which includes banana, pineapple, coffee, and coconut plantations, remains the City’s largest economic sector. It is the leading exporter of fruits such as mangoes, bananas, coconut products, pineapples, papayas, and cacao from Mindanao Island. Thus, It combines natural and man-made attractions, historic and cultural sites, adventure and sports, religious, educational, agro-industrial, attractions, entertainment, Kadayawan festival, dining, and shopping.

HIYAS KADAYAWAN – The Hiyas ng Kadayawan is Davao’s annual search for that one-of-a-kind indigenous young lady who is well-versed in her native culture and wisdom, as revealed through a pageantry of Mindanaoan myths and legends. Here are the winners of the Hiyas Kadayawan 2022:

SAYAW KADAYAWAN – Sayaw Kadayawan is an annual cultural dance theater competition that is part of the Kadayawan Festival. Each performance tells a story that is unique to the tribe from which it comes. Here are the winners of the Sayaw Kadayawan 2022:

DULA KADAYAWAN – It is much more than a gathering of Davao’s 11 tribes. Dula Kadayawan is a showcase of Lumad and Moro games with the goal of raising awareness and educating the younger generation as well as the rest of Dabawenyos about their traditional games and how they are played. Here are thw winners of Dula Kadayawan 2022:

INDAK INDAK SA KADAYAWAN – Indak sa Kadalanan, a grand display of dances and rituals in Davao City’s main streets. The Kadayawan 2012 street dance competition, themed “Ten Tribes, One Vibe,” was attended by 20 contingents, some of which represented the city’s various tribes. PAMULAK-PITIK SA KADAYAWAN – One of the final highlights of the annual Kadayawan Festival is the Pamulak sa Dalan (Floral Float Parade). The Pamulak is a shining example of everything that the Kadayawan Festival stands for. During the event, flowers, fruits, tribes, and Dabawenyos take center stage. While Pitik sa Dayawan is the performances of drumbeaters on the floats. Here are the winners of Pamulak-Pitik sa Kadayawan 2022:
